How to get the most out of Hackathons

In order to get the most out of hackathons and increase your chances of success, there are a number of things you can do before, during and after them.

What is a Hackathon?

A hackathon is a coding competition over a predetermined period of time (often 24 hours) where small teams create solutions from scratch to meet challenges often set by sponsors and often to win prizes.

Why should you attend a hackathon?

Hackathons are a lot of fun. They can be a great opportunity to meet new people, work as a team, experiment with and try new technologies and also look good on the CV.

Do I need to be in a team?

No. Whilst hackathons encourage teamwork, it is perfectly acceptable to attend by yourself. You can either work by yourself or see if you can join another team or someone else on the day.

Do I need to be a programmer?

No. In fact, some of the best teams have designers or UX specialists.

Convinced? Then let's see how you can prepare for a hackathon.
